CrimeJazz is a literary crossover program in which different styles of Spoken Word are interwoven with Hip Hop, Folk, NuSoul, Jazz and other related music genres..

Next to classical forms of poetry and prose, CrimeJazz has its focus on more contemporary styles such as Rap Poetry and Spoken Word. The strength of CrimeJazz is that on the one hand there is a broad variety in literature and on the other hand there is a divers music programming. The emphasis of all the different aspects of the program is on innovation, originality, and topicality. A mix of established and starting, local and international artists are programmed. CrimeJazz has been an important platform for emerging artists in the field ever since it's start in 1998.

Poetry
Words, Poetry and evergreens by a selection of both national and international artists who hit the CrimeJazz stage

Black woman

she used to party trough out the weekend just to get that feeling/
black rooted deep print she is Mozambiquen/
born miles away from decency destined to be leaving/
to the belly of the beast where she would keep on dreaming/
still breathing till this day hope to see her kids play/
when she's over fifty years old and when living is simple/
looking back at her life as a miracle/
peeping into the future rewind she is still little/
an adolescent with her past she still wrestling/ like avalanches chasing her on her passage/
Edwin she met him too much aggression she left him/
took the two kids once up on a time her only weapon/
was partying trough out the weekend to get rid of that feeling/
black rooted deep print she is Mozambiquen /
born miles away from decency destined to be leaving/
she's here now all of her dreams she will achieve em/ One day/

DISAPPEAR

dark and smokey
only a silhouette was apparent
the glare of the disco ball
blocked a sneaky peek
he caught me the 5th time
I could sense the uncertainty
as I let another grope me
the beat flowed through me
as my body was twisted
by another
daddy only tapped
his foot
but never lost sight
of my hips
his eyes lowered slowly
I had to make him
sweat 60
more
seconds
my arms trailed behind me
as I left he first one
on the dance floor
sweat beaded my brow
my breath short
and my stride long
guided to pappi
standing there watching
me
before he could ask me
anything
I placed my manicured
finger over his luscious lips
pressing my body closer
as the music got slower
we wound
bent and
twisted
