Being Presidential
Historic speeches and the power of spoken words

Obama vs McCain
In general, as an artist, I take distance from most political debates and matters. Even though I'm very often interested in a lot of things that happen and are part of public domain. But after these terrible 8 years of the Bush administration and the truly refreshing and inspiring speeches of Barack Obama. I can not help myself from being drawn towards political discussions that are part of today's reality.
So, I post this blog, mainly because of the now already historic upcoming presidential election of the United States of America, that is scheduled for Tuesday November 4, 2008, and the power of spoken words.
This will be the 56th consecutive quadrennial presidential election of the United States. In other words for those who don't know the details of how this political system works. The elected presidential candidate, who becomes the president of the U.S.A., gets a term of maximum 4 years as President, with a maximum of 2 terms.
It might seem strange to some of us in Europe and to rest of the world, but with the "African American" candidate Barack Obama, who has a Kenyan father and a white mother from Kansas (USA), as the Democratic Party nominee for President and John McCain, who is one of the oldest presidential candidate and his selection of the female Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as the Republican Party nominee for Vice-President, the eventual winning ticket already has a historic context/outcome, as either the first "African American" will be elected President along with the first Roman Catholic, Joe Biden, as Vice President or the oldest President will be elected with the first woman Vice President (only one heartbeat away from President).
I'm not going into details, why I prefer Barack Obama over John McCain, mainly because I think that it is a very simple and clear choice, especially after 8 years of disaster with the Republicans at the White House. And all other mistakes made by the previous conventional U.S. political leaders that influenced world politics. The world needs a change now. The people need change, change that they can believe in! Therefore I hope Obama won't fail and gets the chance to make a difference.

I've made a selection of some U.S. presidential speeches and public reactions, during election time or their presidency. Some historic or inspiring, others just funny.
