De Straat versus de Academie




,,Respect the Architect is een term uit de hiphop en refereert aan graffiti en architectuur,” vertelt Dimitri Madimin, curator van de expositie met die naam in het Westelijk Handelsterrein in Rotterdam. ,,Een graffitiartiest gebruikt het werk van iemand anders, een gebouw, muur of brug, als canvas. Maar ook een performancekunstenaar in de openbare ruimte gebruikt de stad als decor.”


De straatkunstenaar versus de eliteartiest, daarover gaat Respect the Architect, de tweede show van creatief platform DistrictQ op initiatief van kunstenaar Madimin en organisator Philip Powel. ,,Maar de scheidslijn tussen populaire en elitaire cultuur is dun. Wat er vandaag op straat wordt gemaakt, hangt morgen misschien in het museum.”
