You can’t help but fall in love with Miguel and his latest track, “Adorn,” after watching this video released just earlier this week. The center of the video is a piece of art that also happens to be the cover of his album, Art Dealer Chic Vol. 1, out later this month. Sensual and soulful, this is how R&B is meant to sound.

The C90s are Jamie Paterson and Danny Ashenden from London who make disco beats with an emphasis on hand claps, piano keys and bass guitar, all of which is slightly reminiscent of Fred Falke. The guys have been having a pretty good year so far, with already several stellar remixes to their name. Their latest release is a February mixtape that keeps the funk going all night long. Take a listen for a guaranteed great start to the weekend.

Damn Maya!

Anonymity can be great sometimes. Sure, it occasionally prompts a quest for unearthing the more-often-than-not well known producer behind the productions (cough Sicko Cell), but for the most part it’s a great vehicle for delivering content that’s unattached to expectations. Such is one of the reasons that the white label only “Shimmy Sham Sham” series has held my attention for its last four releases. Powerful edits of everyone from Grace Jones to the Temptations to Al Green, delivered without ego or excessive liner notes.

This time around delivers a re-edit of Arthur Russell’s “In The Light Of The Miracle” which unleashes a slightly heightened version of the original’s strength – sheer ecstastic balearic dance pop bliss.

Letting the guitar riff come to the forefront of the track while cowbells swirl around in the background like constellations, it’s a classic that evokes some of Russell’s most pop friendly productions. Close your eyes and you can almost imagine yourself stuffed into a sleeping bag in the Rocky Mountains watching the aurora borealis swirl around the sky.

Pulsating bongos are definitely a component of what makes the b-side’s edit of Nina Simone’s “Funkier Than A Mosquito’s Tweeter” a powerful track to play out, but really Nina’s voice is the star here.

Smartly, the track doesn’t try to mess with the sass crammed vocal sample, and it actually cuts almost all other noise out halfway through so that it sounds like she could very well be whispering “you think you’re slick but you could stand a lot of greasing / the things you do ain’t never really pleasin’” right into your ear.

Slightly after that, things get kinda crazy as what sounds like a college drumline appeared out of a cloud of mist and started going ham in the middle of a nightclub.

Nicolas Jaar’s progression from thrumming ambient house minimalism in his debut “The Student” EP on Wolf + Lamb to his now fully fleshed out live act (Clown and Sunset Aesthetics collective) is pretty remarkable.

Here’s more of Jaar doing what he does best – atmospheric piano moodiness with a heavy touch of trumpets added. Catch his PSA1 exhibition on February 5th, a five-hour live performance by Jaar and others.

Big release from the Trunkfunk label, DJ Nibc & Patrick L “Call Me” is about that yearning love while all you can do is wait for THE phonecall and this is wrapped up in a classic disco/house setting.

It’s been a while since we’ve heard the schizophrenic sampling styles of Jean Nipon, one of the core members of the now sadly deceased Parisian Institubes label.

Now he’s resurfacing with a new release on the increasingly prolific Silverback Recordings label – “The Girl Complex” EP.

Complete with one heckuva remix from Night Slugs alumni Jam City, the package also comes with a minimalist little re-edit from the boys in Voltron – a blissed out piece of melodic electronica with drums popping up and fading away in the background that sounds like a 3ball guarachero rhythm that’s been given a shot of morphine. Azari and III breaks all the rules with their remix of Sneaky Sound System‘s “Really Want to See You Again.” The original track itself is great and gleams with Connie Mitchell’s golden vocals and a 90s dance pop vibe. Dinamo and Alixander III flip the switch by cutting up the vocals and adding some retro feeling synths, turning the song into a decidedly deep house track that oozes sexuality.

Handclaps, airy cooing vocals, piano and funk. That’s what ‘Spoken Word’ by Lancelot is about. The track is off Lancelot’s upcoming debut EP, We Can Dance, available on Beatport February 20th. That means you only have to wait less than a month to grab this.

Linkoban’s hard hitting and addictive debut single “Like This” drops monday (February 6th) on Lucy Love’s label Superbillion Records who also directed the video.

as y’all know i am a huge, huge, huge whitley fan, and i want this to get made or at least distributed. they have a hefty goal, but dammit if the internets cant do it, no one can. chris’ music meant a lot to me, and it really pains me to see some of these clips, but still i/we need to see it.

22 year old UK based producer Joshua Leary has been causing a sensation with the YouTube releases of his Evian Christ project, he has now signed to Tri Angle Records who decided to hand out “Kings And Them” – a mastered collection of his tracks. Dark, eerie fleeting soundscapes mixed up with rap vocals and cut up beats makes for a perfect companion to the blisteringly cold yet surprisingly sunny Scandinavian winter days.
